SIBU: A ‘tahlil’ that took place at the National Warriors Memorial of Masjid An-Nur here yesterday gathered about 200 people.

The session, where Muslims recited prayers for the departed, was hosted by Kelab Kesetiaan Sarawak (KKS) in collaboration with National Solidarity Association (Persona) of Sarawak.

According to KKS chairman Abdul Halim Hamdian, the ‘tahlil’ was observed in connection with the peaceful assembly ‘MA63 Sarawak 2019 Sibu Edition’, which also took place yesterday.

“Our aim to hold this programme is to instil awareness in the younger generation the importance to know and respect the history of, and also the struggles by the independent fighters in Sarawak.

“We will also hold a talk on ‘The Struggles of Rosli Dhoby and His Comrades’,” he said when met by reporters, adding that the peaceful assembly at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang here was a continuation of the ‘MA63 Sarawak 2019’ rally at Padang Merdeka in Kuching on Jan 9.

“Total of 29 NGOs in Sibu have joined us to ensure the success of this programme (assembly),” he said.
