KUCHING: Save Our Strays (SOS) Kuching is calling on the authorities to explain the action of some personnel who had trespassed on a private property to catch dogs during an integrated operation against rabies.

The group had uploaded photos and a video, said to be from a farm owner in Lundu, which allegedly showed the personnel catching the dogs.

The incident is claimed to have happened recently, during which eight dogs were caught despite the canines wearing collars indicating they were already vaccinated against rabies.

The alleged action by the personnel drew condemnation from netizens commenting on SOS Kuching’s Facebook page.

Attempts by The Borneo Post to contact the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat on the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.

The pilot integrated operation, covering Bau and Lundu districts, was launched March 1 and runs until March 10.

It involves the police, armed forces, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, Department of Veterinary Services, Local Government and Housing Ministry, and Sarawak Forestry Corporation, while the district offices and the operations control centre at Wisma Bapa Malaysia would act as secretariats.

It was reported that if successfully implemented, the integrated operation would be carried out in other parts of Sarawak.

Media reports also stated that the normal system of targeted removal of dogs would be used during the operation, and that the objective of the operation was to make sure that 100 per cent of the dogs within the area would be vaccinated.
