Octogenarian killed in apparent hit and run accident

MIRI: An octogenarian was killed in an apparent hit and run accident at KM2 Miri-Bintulu road (near Shell station in city centre) around 7.15am today.

The deceased has been identified as 84-year-old Diong Ching Hwang.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu when contacted today, confirmed that police have received a report on the incident.

“Around 7.15am, there was a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian.

“The vehicle which had hit the victim had escaped and could not be identified (at the time of accident),” he said.

He said that police are currently tracking the vehicle involved by checking nearby CCTVs.

“We would also like to call members of the public who witnessed the accident to come forward and assist police in identifying the culprit,” Alexson said.

The victim died on the spot due to severe injuries.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics from Miri Hospital who was called to the scene.
