SIBU: The eight Sarawakians who were stranded in Monrovia, Liberia since Feb 4 after they fell for a job scam have landed back home in the state safely.

They transited through Kuala Lumpur International Airport earlier today after being successfully repatriated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a concerted diplomatic and consular efforts.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that all of the stranded Sarawakians were cheated by a local Malaysian job syndicate.

Majenah Jeni, wife of Suhaili Gani, one of the stranded Sarawakians told reporters when met at the airport that she did not expect her husband’s apparent job offer to take a wrong turn.

“This is the third time my husband has been offered a job overseas. The first two times, the jobs turned out to be legitimate and not a scam.

“I never expected something like this to happen,” she said.

The Sarawakians were immediately escorted by the authorities to lodge a police report after they landed.
