Landmark case on NCR land dispute to see resolution soon

MIRI: The dispute between the rural community of Long Terawan and an oil palm plantation operator who the former claimed to have entered and trespassed into Native Customary Rights (NCR) land belonging to the local villagers will end soon.

In giving this assurance, Works Minister Baru Bian said he is aware of the issue which has turned into a landmark case concerning NCR land lately.

“I have been informed of the claims made by the residents in Long Terawan.

“In fact, the issue regarding the Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau will be discussed again in a case on March 17. I know this because my firm is also involved and I hope this will be able to end any disputes and doubts regarding this landmark case,” he told reporters when met after an interview session with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) here today.

In this regard, Baru also advised state leaders to never filter or set aside matters concerning NCR land.

“Such issues should be investigated and brought to court for further action. Each complaint must be investigated and finalised in court.

“I hope the state government will be patient and investigate the complaints and claims regarding NCR lands,” he added.
