SIBU: Amanah Raya Berhad (AmanahRaya) spreading its wings here is a timely move to provide estate administration and wills services for local folk, Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said.

He said this is because as more developments take place on the estate (‘tanah pusaka’) here, many issues will crop up eventually such as distribution of assets or rightful surviving beneficiaries.

“When that happens, it will give rise to conflicts among families. For example, when a person passes away, a proper Estate Administration needs to be carried out to ensure that the rightful surviving beneficiaries inherit the deceased’s assets.

“This is where AmanahRaya can come in to provide their services,” he told a press conference after declaring open the new AmanahRaya branch here yesterday, which is the second in Sarawak and the 20th in the country.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, said having a branch in Sibu has done away with the hassle of travelling to Kuching to get such services.

He also urged AmanahRaya to roll out more outreach programmes.

“In that way, rural folk will be introduced to their roles and services and why such services are important,” he said.

“I can help them to gather a small group of people where they can give talks on the roles and services,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, AmanahRaya chairman Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali said they are looking to open up a branch in Miri.

Among those present were AmanahRaya group managing director Adenan Md Yusoff, Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain and Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce.
