KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has confirmed receiving the resignation letter from Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat as the party’s vice president and member. A source said the resignation letter was received yesterday morning.

Masir had said in a statement yesterday that he had quit PRS following his decision to join Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

With Masir’s resignation, PRS is now left with two members of Parliament namely Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Aro Dagang and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong. The party still has 11 state assemblypersons.

In the general election in May last year, PRS contested in six parliamentary seats but only won half of them.

Masir is a three-term MP. In last year’s general election as Barisan Nasional candidate, he successfully defended the seat by 5,820 vote-majority in a three-cornered fight after he garnered 14,141 votes against Norina Utot of PKR (8,321 votes) and the late Cobbold John of PBDS Baru (538 votes).
