KUCHING: A 25-year-old man who was reported missing at sea was found alive by villagers at Kampung Supa Beladin around 3pm yesterday.

The victim, said to be suffering from hallucinations, had earlier taken his uncle’s fishing boat out to sea near Muara Kabong.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the fishing boat capsized near the village where he was found, due to strong waves.

“It was fortunate that the victim managed to swim to safety and was found by the villagers,” said the Bomba operations commander Kho Boo Jang yesterday. The victim was later sent back to his village – Kampung Ulu Masjid Kabong. It was also revealed that the victim did not know how to navigate a boat while the fishing boat that he took was low on fuel.

This had prompted the victim’s father to lodge a police report for fear of his son’s safety.

The Malaysian Enforcement Maritime Agency (APMM) had joined in the Search and Rescue operation.
