Liberian job scam: Timber logger pleads not guilty to five charges of cheating

The accused is being led to the Magistrates’ Court to face the charges.

SIBU: A timber logger, who is allegedly involved in Liberia timber employment cheating case faced five charges of cheating at a Magistrates’ Court today.

However, the accused Die Sing Kwong, 60, of Jalan Cherry pleaded innocence to the charges that were read and explained to him through an interpreter.

Deputy High Court Registrar Stella Augustine Druce ordered that the case to be heard at the Magistrates’ Court in Kapit on Mar 21.

She granted the accused who was represented by Boston Ho to be released on bail in the form of fixed deposit of RM2,500 with two local sureties for each charge.

He was indicted on five charges of fraudulently induced Tie Siew Heng, Enyang Ato, Untoi Luyang, Gawan Masin and Aji Surau in Sibu and Kapit between October and December last year.

All the offences were listed under Section 415 (b) which is punishable under Section 417 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to five years or fine or both upon conviction.
