Man lucky to be alive after car plunges off ferry

KUCHING: A 66-year-old male driver was lucky to be alive after the car he was driving plunged off a ferry at Sungai Krian, Jalan Saratok this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel who were at the scene, reported that the man was heading to Kuching when the incident occurred around 7.30am.

Based on initial investigations, the victim is believed to have lunged his car forward before the ferry managed to reach its proper point to berth.

The victim, who was still in his car as it started to sink, managed to free himself from the driver’s seat for his dramatic escape.

It was also revealed that one of the ferry operators assisted in his escape.

Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel who were called to the scene, provided treatment to the victim who only suffered minor injuries to his left hand.
