PETAGAS: SMK Petagas, which is one of the two secondary schools projects that are being planned in Petagas state constituency, is expected to be completed by July, next year.

Petagas assemblyman Datuk Uda Sulai said the school, which costs about RM39 million, will have 36 classrooms and can accommodate around 1,440 students between Form 1 and Form 5.

He said that the new school will also be equipped with an assembly hall as well as quarters for teachers.

“Since the school will only cater for students within the constituency, a hostel is not included in the plan,” said Uda, who is also the assistant Legal Affairs and Natives Minister when visiting four schools that are within his constituency today.

Construction of SMK Petagas is expected to be completed in July, next year.

According to him, another school that is being planned is SMK Lokkawi.

Reporters were made aware that the location where the school will be built is already finalised and that the land where it will be built costs RM24 million.

He added that the constituency needs the secondary schools as it only has two –  SMK Putatan and SMK Tansau –  that are in operation at the moment.

“The constituency is growing and we expect the population to grow further. Even with the completion of SMK Petagas, we predict that it will still not be enough to cater for all students in the constituency,” he said.

He also said that all of the schools within his constituency were still in good condition, even though some needed to be repaired.

“It can still be tolerated,” he said concerning the condition of the schools.

As for his visit, he said that it was necessary for him, being the representative of the people, to know the status of all projects that are currently being implemented.

“I am checking on all projects by all ministries that are being carried out in my constituency because the chief minister wants to know if we are aware about them,” he said.
