SIBU: Swan City Recreational Club Sibu (SCRCS) will be sending eight players for the Sarawak Closed Snooker Championship which will be held at Kuching’s Q Master Snooker Centre from April 8 to 15.
The eight are Mark Yeo, Steven Wong, Ricky Thian, Ng Hong Man, Jee Chau Kim, James Ting, Aaron Teo and Peter Liong.
Yeo, who is also SCRCS president, said they are raring to go with some of them eyeing a top five finish.
“This is the first time in many years that the Sarawak Closed is staged. All of us are looking forward to it with renewed inspiration and motivation,” he added.
According to him, the Sarawak Closed is the only local tournament that can determine the seeding for players.
He said local players have not been competing against each other for the past two years due to lack of tournaments.
Organised by Kuching Q Master Snooker Centre, the Sarawak Closed is expected to attract 64 players.
Other divisions like Sarikei, Miri and Bintulu are also expected to send top players.
The champion will bring home RM2,000, the runner-up receives RM800, losing semi-finalists (RM300) and losing quarter-finalists (RM150).
Yeo vowed that SCRCS will also give its full support to any snooker association willing to host snooker tournaments.
“Hosting the snooker tournaments is not easy and all of us need to work doubly hard. Together, we can help upgrade and promote the standard of the game in the state,” he said.
