KUCHING: Sarawak recorded eight straight A+ achievers for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2018.

Alvin Soo Qwan Zhou from SMK Bintulu and Nur Izzah Athirah Abdul Samat from SMK St Teresa scored A+ for all 10 subjects taken, while Constance Wong Chia Yii (SMK Sungai Maong), Muhamad Hazim Isa and Nazmi Ahmad Nizar (SM Sains Kuching Utara), Muhamad Maziz Azri Maznan (SM Sains Miri), as well as Allister Daniel Linggong and Kevin Yok (SMK Merbau) all scored 9A+.

For Wong, scoring A+ in all the nine subjects she sat for caught her by surprise as she felt the English essay writing component was a struggle.

“I was surprised that I managed an A+ for English. I spent three to four hours a day preparing for the examinations. Whenever I felt tired, I took a 10- to 15-minute break, either napping or listening to songs to relax,” recalled a smiling Wong.

She thanked her teachers, friends, and parents for their support.

“Especially my parents who encouraged and supported me a lot,” she said.

Wong said she would try to apply for a scholarship to study dentistry.

Muhamad Hazim said time management was key towards his good results.

“When I was studying, I gave all my focus to it. And when I was hanging out with friends, I played hard too.

“During classes, I took note of what the teachers said. Besides pouring all my heart into my studies, I prayed before bedtime for my success,” he said.

Muhamad Hazim, who aspires to become a software engineer, said he would definitely continue with his education.

“It’s always good to plan early because time flies. Time management really matters. Manage your time well, you should do fine,” he advised those sitting for SPM this year.
