MIRI: Flash floods at Kampung Tegarai and Kubong Agriculture Station near here are expected to be resolved with the completion of a concrete bridge to replace the wooden one that traps debris which clogs the river, causing it to overflow.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the government had identified the main causes of the flash floods especially during heavy rain.

“The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) had agreed to clear the river of debris and also widen the badly affected section of the river while Lee Ling Timber Company will replace the old wooden bridge with concrete bridge and elevate the area to ensure smooth flow of the water there,” he told the media on Wednesday when visiting the logging company’s log pond.

Also present were divisional agriculture officer Kimbang Japarudin Ali, DID Limbang engineer Hanisah Ahmad and Lee Ling Timber Sdn Bhd Limbang general manager Chieng Kai Tiew.

On a separate matter, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is Bukit Kota assemblyman, said RM10 million had been allocated by the state government to build two collection, processing and packaging centres (CPPC) in Limbang and Lawas districts to market and export agricultural products.
