KUCHING: A total of 22 riders from Peninsular Malaysia, Germany, Belgium, and Taiwan are now journeying on the Pan Borneo Highway to discover interesting places in East Malaysia on two wheels.

The 10-day adventure rally will cover a total distance of about 3,000km, including some off-road riding. The riders will make daily stops in Sibu, Miri, and the Merarap Hot Springs Lodge in Lawas, before proceeding to Keningau, Tawau, Sandakan, Kinabalu Park, Kudat, and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, himself an avid biker, flagged off the riders yesterday. He welcomed the riders to Sarawak, saying the hot weather in Borneo will be a good experience for those riders from Europe.

Abang Johari said the riders would hopefully see what the government has done with the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway and coastal road, which offer very good scenery.

“I also hope that you will get the skill and wisdom together as you ride your bikes from Kuching right up to the other parts of your destinations. I wish all the riders a very good and exciting journey,” he said.

BMW GS Trophy marshal and rider Faizal Sukree, who is a certified BMW Motorrad International tour guide and instructor, is leading the rally.

The tour is organised by Malaysian motorcycle tour company FS Adventure with local operator Pin Sing Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd organising ground handling and logistics.
