KUCHING: Fishermen are urged not to fish in waters near the Indonesian border for the time being.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) officers made this call yesterday following the arrest of a fishing vessel ‘Nemo’ by the Indonesian authorities.

Despite the incident occurring within Sarawak’s sea boundaries, MMEA urged fishermen not to fish in the surrounding areas for the time being, a press statement said.

They are also seeking assistance from the Malaysian navy based in Kota Kinabalu to increase the number of sea-patrolling vessels to prevent such incidents from occurring.

Yesterday, fishermen received free copies of sea water boundaries from the MMEA during a dialogue in Bako arranged by a political secretary to chief minister, Tan Kai.
