BAU: Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Jinep says he is leaving it to the police and Immigration Department to investigate the issue regarding Pakistani nationals in Bau.
He said both the police and Immigration Department are now investigating the issue, which was highlighted by Yatt Society Sarawak (YSS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) recently.
“I leave it to the police and Immigration Department to carry out investigation, which they are doing now. They will take action if necessary,” he said today.
Henry urged the victims of the alleged sexual assault by a Pakistani national to lodge a police report.
“The victims should lodge a police report and if there is a genuine case, the police will act,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Henry said he was informed by the police and Immigration Department that the Pakistani national in Bau had proper documentation, such as a passport and a licence to trade.
Amir, a Pakistani shop owner who was interviewed by The Borneo Post recently, has said that he was appalled by the number of baseless allegations hurled against him and his countrymen for operating their businesses here.
He added that last Thursday, Immigration Department officers had come to his house to conduct checks on his documents such as passports and business licence – all of which were legitimate and in proper order.
YSS claimed that the foreigners were also involved in illicit affairs such as drugs and money laundering, and were supported and given protection money by “certain individuals”.
