MIRI: About 3,000 people are expected to attend the launching of Parti Gabungan Sarawak (GPS) Zone 14 road show for Mulu, Telang Usan and Marudi constituencies at Dataran Marudi on March 20 slated to start at 10am.

Also scheduled to be held on the same day is the launching of Marudi Waterfront project with both events to be officiated by GPS chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to GPS Zone 14 chairman who is also Mulu assemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala, the road show is a follow-up event after the launching of GPS by Abang Johari on Jan 19 this year.

He said this during a press conference after chairing GPS Zone 14’s third Coordination Committee Meeting at a hotel here yesterday.

He further said that as people in the rural areas, especially Mulu, Telang Usan and Marudi were so used to the ideology and logo of Barisan Nasional (BN), it was important to create awareness among them of GPS which is a collaboration that fights for the people’s rights.

“Through this road show, we want to increase awareness among the people starting from the grassroots level in all three constituencies, that our ‘brand’ is no longer BN but GPS,” he stressed adding the people need to know about GPS’ objectives so that those in those areas will continue to support GPS.

Gerawat said that GPS which comprises local parties namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) is the best for Sarawak to move forward politically, socially and economically.

“After the launching of the road show in Marudi on March 20, they will also go to the ground in their respective constituencies to launch it at sub-branches level,” he said.

One of the activities planned as part of the launch is a 15-vehicle convoy comprising four-wheel-drive vehicles (4WD) by GPS Zone 14 youths which will start from Bario to Lio Mato – Long San – Long Pillah – Long Lama – Long Bedian – Beluru before ending in Marudi.

“The date of the convoy will be announced later. We are also planning to have a road show in Long Lama,” said Gerawat.

Also present were GPS Zone 14 vice chairman and Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Penguang Manggil as well as vice chairman and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

Penguang meanwhile said that after the launching of the road show and Marudi Waterfront project, Abang Johari is expected to officiate SMK Tinjar school hall opening as well as present project offer letters to contractors in Lapok.
