KUCHING: A total of 350 land lots at Mentu Pondok, Mentu Mawang and Muara Mongkos in Serian have been successfully documented under the Land Documentation Project of Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

The documentation process since last year was completed recently with cooperation from folks of these three villages.

A ceremony to hand over the documents was held recently at Mentu Mawang hall, officiated by Kedup assemblyman Martin Ben.

In his speech, Martin reminded the village folks to be more proactive in DBNA’s approach to help them document their native customary rights (NCR) lands.

He also said the DBNA land documentation will be done in more villages in the area, notably at Kampung Bunan Gega and Kampung Mapu Trage Mawang.

Also present at the ceremony were DBNA deputy president and chairman of the NCR Land Documentation Project Charlie Ungang, Tebedu district officer who is also DBNA Serian chairman Raymond Achen and community leaders.

The land documentation at these three villages was in line with DBNA’s recent stand to continue with this project to cover more villages.

It has been reported recently that several Bidayuh villages have been given titles under Sections 6 and 18 of the Land Code, which are success stories of the NCR Land Documentation Project despite it being a community-based initiative.
