Firefighters put out the bushfire near Marina Square.

MIRI: Bushfires at Marina Square, Canada Hill and Holiday Park here yesterday have resulted in hazy conditions in the city.

Fire and Rescue Department’s operation commander Abang Mohd Fhazil Abang Abdul Manaf said they received a report on bushfires in an area of about four acres at 12.30am yesterday.

“The cause of the fire is likely to be due to the burning of rubbish near the beach, which then spread to the nearby bushes.”

Also involved in the operation was a team from Samling.

Meanwhile, head of Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6, Superintendent Law Poh Kiong, said that in the event of a bushfire at Marina area, the public could contact the developer (Samling) at 085-413099.

“The developer (Samling) can be contacted to control and put off the fire because the area comes under Pantai Bayu.

“However, firefighters will still be present if called to help for the safety of the public,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Air Pollutant Index (IPU) here at 3pm yesterday was 57 in the city and 52 in ILP Miri.
