KUCHING: Police seized ganja worth an estimated RM12,790 from a 26-year-old at a house in RPR Jalan Astana on Tuesday.

Police found 639.5 grams of the drug during a raid at 7.15pm.

“At the house, the police conducted a body search on the suspect and found 1.5 grams of ganja inside his pants’ front pocket. He then led police to his bedroom where another 63 packets of ganja were kept inside a bag,” Kuching district police acting chief Supt Ismail Mahmud said yesterday.

The suspect, who is said to be unemployed, does not have a criminal record.

He was arrested at the Tabuan Jaya police station for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, Section 6 for drug possession, and Section 15(1) for drug abuse.

During a second raid at another RPR Jalan Astana house at 7.50pm, police arrested a 30-year-old man after finding ganja weighing 96 grams worth an estimated RM1,920 in his possession.

Ismail said the drug was packed in 15 plastic packets, which were found in a waist pouch.

The waist pouch also contained a digital weighing scale.

The suspect would be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) and Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The 30-year-old suspect is from Ampang, Selangor and also claims to be jobless,” said Ismail, adding the second suspect also has no criminal record.

He added both suspects tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and admitted they got their supply of ganja from a local drug dealer.
