SIBU: Police have arrested a man after he allegedly torched a car parked at Island Road here at 10am yesterday.
Members of the public, who witnessed the incident, had helped to extinguish the flames on the car before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Policemen, who arrived at the scene shortly after being notified, arrested the suspected arsonist, who had gone into hiding at the Rajang Port Authority premises.
A witness claimed that he had seen the suspect torching the car.
It is said that the suspect had confessed to police about him being instructed to burn the car and would be paid RM5,000 if he finished the job – he also claimed that he had yet to receive the payment.
Police are investigating.
