Rare disease not an obstacle for woman painter

KLANG: Her short stature and hearing problem are no hindrance for Nur Fariza Abu Hassan, 34, to create beautiful artworks and sell them online.

Nur Fariza, was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis type IV, a rare genetic disease which affects bone, skeletal structure, connective tissues, and organs, when she was little.

Her paintings, which were posted on her brother’s Twitter account under the name ‘@FaizTobeng’, had received encouraging response from the social media users who admire her talent, strength and perseverance.

The fourth of five siblings said she was excited to find that her paintings went viral on Twitter and she began to receive some orders from clients.

“So far, the paintings are getting more than 30,000 retweets and 18,000 likes,” said Nur Fariza who likes to paint scenery and play piano.

Besides painting on canvas, Nur Fariza said she also painted on wooden surfaces, biscuit tin and small boxes.

She had produced 150 paintings and 50 of them had been sold between RM100 and RM400, depending on sizes and type of paintings.

“Last December, I had the opportunity to showcase my paintings at a gallery in Pulau Indah”, she said. — Bernama
