SIBU: A male staff member of a primary school in Sungai Tuah, Kanowit was found hanged inside the bedroom of the school’s staff quarters on Saturday evening.

Acting Kanowit police chief ASP Faizal Nawi said the 45-year-old was found by his older brother, who had gone to the school that day to check on him.

“The older brother said he knocked on the front door (of the quarters) repeatedly, but nobody answered. He then decided to break down the door and, once inside, found that a bedroom near the kitchen was locked.

“Upon locating the key, he opened the bedroom door and saw the victim hanging from a rope, tied to the ceiling fan,” said Faizal when contacted yesterday.

The older brother immediately notified the school’s security guard of the grim discovery, prompting the latter to contact the police, he added.

According to Faizal, initial investigation found no sign of foul play at the scene, with the victim believed to have died about four hours prior to being discovered.

He said the body was later sent to Kanowit Hospital, with police classifying the case as sudden death, pending post-mortem.
