FB post linking Tangau with IC issuance to illegals reported to police

KOTA KINABALU: A police report was lodged against a Facebook page owner for a posting that allegedly linked Deputy Chief Minister cum UPKO president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau with the issuance of identification cards (ICs) to illegal immigrants.

The police report was lodged by Verus Augustine Gomit, a private secretary for the minister, against the owner of a Facebook page called Negara Borneo Utara at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters in Karamunsing yesterday.

The Facebook post referred to claimed that Tangau had no qualms about giving ICs to illegal immigrants and even uploaded two photos of Tangau seen sitting in a meeting.

Verus explained that the two photos were actually taken on March 14 during a courtesy call made by committee members of the Federation of Sabah Industries.

“It had nothing to do the issuance of ICs to illegal immigrants,” h stressed.

It is understood that screenshots of the said Facebook post had since gone viral on social media, especially WhatsApp.

Upko Tuaran information bureau members lodging the same report at the Tuaran police station.

Following the police report, Verus said it is believed that the police would immediately commence investigations into the matter.

“We will let the police conduct their investigations so that further legal action can be taken against the individual and group responsible (for the Facebook post),” Verus said.

Meanwhile, another police report regarding the same issue was also lodged at the Tuaran police station on the same day. The report was lodged by UPKO Tuaran information bureau, led by its chief, Daukim Gilu.
