See Hua Group newspaper distributor killed in hit-and-run, suspect’s vehicle found abandoned


The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal head injuries in the incident.

KUCHING: A newspaper distributor was killed in a hit-and-run accident this morning at about 6.15am along Jalan Tun Jugah heading towards Kuching International Airport here.

The victim, Chong Kui Hin, aged 67, was understood to have been a newspaper distributor for See Hua Group of newspapers including See Hua Daily News, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo for the past 20 years.

Early investigations revealed that the victim’s motorcycle was believed to have been hit by a BMW sedan from behind.

The vehicle, which police suspect to have been involved in the hit-and-run, was found abandoned by the road near Kuching Sentral.

The victim was thrown onto the road as a result of the collision.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal head injuries.

His body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital’s Forensic Unit for a postmortem.

“The vehicle which was suspected to be involved in the incident was later abandoned and spotted at Jalan Airport, near Kuching Sentral. The driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be seen,” said Alexson in a statement today.

Traffic police were at the scene to control the flow of traffic until the vehicle was towed away.

The suspect has yet to be identified at the time of writing and the case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act.
