KUCHING: The driver of the BMW sedan who was involved in a hit-and-run accident on March 29 has turned himself in at the Kuching District Police Headquarters One Stop Centre yesterday.

On March 29, a newspaper distributor for the See Hua Group of newspapers, Chong Kui Hin, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Jalan Tun Jugah here after suffering fatal head injuries.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the 49-year-old suspect’s statement had been recorded and he would be brought to the Sarawak General Hospital Forensic Unit for his blood specimen to be taken for a drug and alcohol examination.

“From the recorded statement, the suspect said that the BMW luxury vehicle that was involved in the accident belonged to his friend and he had borrowed the car as his own car had broken down,” said Alexson in a statement yesterday.

Alexson disclosed that the suspect’s driving license had expired.

He said that the suspect fled the scene as he was “afraid” and “felt panicked” immediately after the accident.
