PUTRAJAYA: Applications of the agricultural and agrofood products import and export permit can be done in as quick as three minutes via the online system, iMaqis.

Agriculture and Agrobased Industries Ministry deputy minister Sim Tze Tzin said the new system would be able to save the time of the personnel at the Malaysian Inspection and Quarantine Service Department (Maqis) as they need not use paper and cash because all businesses were implemented online.

He said iMaqis which would operate fully in the middle of the year would enable a saving of RM350,000 a year.

‘’The new system has become a value added to the operations at the entry gate to Maqis in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan in terms of efficiency of work to process and facilitating importers and exporters,’’ he told reporters after launching the iMaqis here yesterday.

According to Sim, iMaqis, with six modules, had started to be utilised in stages since November last year.

Sim said among the characteristics of iMaqis is the use of the ‘QR code’ on the Maqis permit which would enable Maqis enforcement officers to speedily check the trade information to avoid permit falsification, as one of its security features.

Last year, he said Maqis processed 554,461 import and export permits involving 37 million metric tonnes worth RM133 billion. — Bernama
