KUCHING: The owner of a construction company was found dead in an apparent suicide in his office at Kota Sentosa.

Padawan District Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the deceased has been identified as Tan Joo Teck, 51 years old.

The deceased’s sister thought something was amiss when the deceased did not return home since Monday and this prompted her to check the office around 11.30am yesterday.

“Upon his failure to return home on March 31, his (deceased) sister and one of her worker went to the office to check his whereabouts. There, they found Tan’s lifeless body by the stairs inside the office,” said Aidil when contacted today.

No suicide note was found by police at the scene.

According to his sister, the deceased had been involved in the construction industry since 1999 and had moved to their new office in Kota Sentosa in 2016.

“Initial investigations also revealed that the deceased was facing financial difficulties and was declared a bankrupt,” said Aidil.

He also dismissed foul play as there were no signs of forced entry into the office.

He revealed that the deceased’s body also did not show physical injuries which points to a struggle.

The case he said is classified as sudden death and a post-mortem will be carried out at the Sarawak General Hospital’s mortuary today.
