BINTULU: Local oil palm smallholders in the division have been called on to get Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification.

Tuai Rumah Jimbat Dalang from Sungai Selezu Pandan hosted an MSPO certification session on Wednesday, which was conducted by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and other government agencies.

“I urge all parties involved in this sector to give full cooperation so that we would get the MSPO certification soon,” he said.

The oil palm planters also requested plantation companies in the Sebauh area give them full cooperation to get MSPO certification.

The smallholders requested the companies provide prohibition signboards, which at RM500 each are too costly for them.

Among the some 200 involved in the briefing session were planters from Genaan, Binyo, Kelabat, and other nearby longhouses.

MSPO certification provides credible sustainable and responsible management to bring about positive social, environmental, and economic impacts, while minimising the negative impacts, particularly on the people and environment.
