KUCHING: Sarawak Association for People’s Aspiration (Sapa) invites all Sarawakians to ‘30-Minute Flash Mob’ in Padang Merdeka here at 9am today.

According to Sapa publicity and information chief Peter John Jaban, the event is held as a protest against the proposed Bill seeking to amend Clause (2) of Article 1 of the Federal Constitution, being tabled in Parliament.

He said the first reading of drafted amendment stated that Sarawak and Sabah as ‘mere states in the Federation of Malaysia’.

“We insist that Sarawak and Sabah be restored and recognised as sovereign states, which jointly formed Malaysia. We want the amendment to explicitly and clearly state that the Federation of Malaysia is made up of the sovereign states of Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya,” said Peter in a statement yesterday.

Sapa echoed the suggestion by Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin, who called for Sarawak and Sabah to be recognised as ‘Negara Sarawak’ and ‘Negara Sabah’ (Nations of Sarawak and Sabah), instead of just being among the states in the Federation of Malaysia.

“We call all Sarawakians, from all walks of life, to unite and join the rally at Padang Merdeka and send this strong message as one united Sarawak,” said Peter.
