PENAMPANG: After almost a year of silence, Nabawan assemblyman Bobbey Suan decided to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) yesterday. The former UPKO assemblyman has been an independent since resigning as a party vice president last July.

“After observing the political scenario in the last 11 months both at state and national level, I have come to the conclusion that I can move on from being an independent assemblyman to a PPBM one.

“I believe this is the best way forward for the people in my constituency and in Sabah in general. I join PPBM in line with the wishes of the big majority of my voters in my constituency,” he said, in a short statement yesterday.

Bobbey received his official membership from Prime Minister and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad yesterday.

Meanwhile, most of Sabah’s politicians including two former chief minsters, Tan Sri Harris Salleh and Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat were at the Bersatu Sabah launching ceremony which was held at ITCC Penampang. It was officiated by Tun Mahathir.

Those from the opposition included Sabah opposition leader Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, PBS secretary general Datuk Jahid Jahim, PBS chief information officer Datuk Joniston Bangkuai,  PBRS president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup an deputy president Arthur Kurup, and LDP president Datuk Chin Su Phin.

Kimanis MP (independent) Anifah Aman, who is a former federal minister, was also present and he said he was there to witness the launching ceremony on the invitation from Bersatu.
