KOTA KINABALU: Eight teenagers were detained by Beaufort police on Saturday evening for fighting in a public area.
Beaufort police chief DSP Azmir B. Abd Razak said those involved in the fight were aged between 14 and 19 years old and three of them were students.
The fight was reportedly between two groups of boys, said Azmir, adding that each group comprised of family relatives.
According to Azmir, one of the boys was apparently unhappy that his younger sister’s boyfriend had asked her to top up his mobile number.
“He then asked his sister’s boyfriend to meet him at one of the shops in Beaufort Jaya that day and asked two of his cousins to come along. The sister’s boyfriend showed up together with four of his cousins and a fight broke out between the two groups,” said Azmir.
Police responding to a call about the fight, went to arrest the boys involved in the fight and took them to the police station to have their statements recorded, he said.
