KUCHING: The construction of three health clinics in Tabuan Jaya, Serian and Siburan are expected to commence this year, says Deputy Minister of Health Dr Lee Boon Chye.

According to him, the contract for the construction of Siburan Clinic has already been awarded, while the tender period for both Tabuan Jaya and Serian clinics has expired.

The Siburan and Serian clinics are Type 3 facilities, while the bigger Tabuan Jaya clinic is categorised under Type 2.

On the much-delayed Petra Jaya Hospital, Dr Lee described the completion rate as being ‘about 70 per cent’. The initial contractor was terminated after being given repeated time extensions to complete the project.

“Petra Jaya Hospital is not expected to be completed this year or next year. The project needs to be retendered and a new contractor is needed to take over,” he told reporters yesterday.

On the progress of Sri Aman Hospital, Dr Lee did not divulge much information, but he was optimistic that the project would reach completion by the end of this year, or early next year, despite the many delays.
