MIRI: A foreign woman was among eight individuals arrested by police here Saturday during three separate drug busts which saw RM25,965 worth of narcotics seized.

Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said police first arrested a 39-year-old man in front of a homestay facility in the city centre around 6.30pm.

“A body search carried out found a sunglass box inside a sling bag.

“Inside the box were two plastic packets containing suspected Syabu weighing 17.20 grammes, as well as another plastic packet which held 11 smaller packets containing suspected Syabu weighing 5.29 grammes,” he said in a media statement yesterday.

In addition to the methamphetamine, the team also found 23 Erimin 5 pills weighing 7.20 grammes on the suspect, who has prior records for drug-related offences.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 39A of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of narcotics, added Sahar.

He said the team then followed up the arrest by raiding two rooms at the homestay, where the first room saw five women aged between 25 and 41, including an Indonesian, held for possession of drugs.

“A search of the room found two transparent plastic packets containing suspected Syabu weighing 0.40 grammes.

“The five women have been detained under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for narcotics possession,” he said.

In the second room, police nabbed a couple, aged 32 and 46, after five packets of suspected Syabu weighing 190 grammes and eight Erimin 5 pills weighing 2.50 grammes, were found inside a sling bag.

“The couple is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in narcotics,” said Sahar, adding the raiding party also seized a motorcycle and a luxury car during the raids.
