Marine Police seize RM15,000 worth of contraband in Miri


Marine police confiscate beer from one of the three premises raided on Sunday.

MIRI: The Marine Police from Kuching, Bintulu and Miri seized contraband worth about RM15,000 in an operation on three premises here yesterday.

Marine Police Region 5 Intelligence and Operations division chief DSP Fakharuddin Amri Sanusi when contacted today said a total of 61 cartons of contraband cigarettes, 583 cans and 168 bottles of smuggled beer of different brands worth RM15,000 were confiscated during the operation.

“Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, the police team from Kuching, Bintulu and Miri raided three premises in Pelita commercial centre and city centre yesterday morning.

“In Pelita commercial centre, the raiding team confiscated 37 cartons of cigarettes, 583 cans of beer and 168 bottles of beer of various brands from two premises located next to each other,” he said.

Another team raided a premise in the city centre and seized 24 cartons of cigarettes and cash amounting RM2,475.

Fakharuddin added that the raiding team also arrested two women and a man aged between 30 and 65 to facilitate in police investigation.
