BINTULU: Forty-two units of Uma Bawang, an Orang Ulu longhouse in Sg Asap resettlement scheme in Belaga, were razed in a fire around 6pm yesterday.

A church building was also destroyed in the blaze, Sg Asap Voluntary Firefighting Unit chairman Tirah Lawai said last night.
He said a senior citizen who suffered serious burns in the incident was rushed to Bintulu Hospital.
Eleven firemen from Bintulu Fire and Rescue station led by station chief Mohamad Meramit were also deployed to the scene apart from volunteer fire fighters battling the blaze.
The fire is believed to have started from the kitchen of one of the units.
No other details were available as of press time.
