MIRI: Narcotics Police arrested nine men during an operation on Sunday, where substance said to be syabu were confiscated from a hut in Long Lama.

The ‘Ops Sarang’ was carried out following complaints and tip-off from the public.

Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif, in a statement yesterday, said police raided the hut at 12.25pm and apprehended six men, aged between 25 and 53, inside there.

“A check inside the hut found one sling bag, inside which were 19 plastic packets containing crystalline substance suspected to be Syabu, weighting 17.15g.

“The raiding team also found 25 straw tubes containing the same substance, weighting 6.35g, inside the sling bag,” he added.

If the substance proved to be syabu, it would worth an estimated RM5,850.

Police are investigating all six suspects under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for illegal possession of drugs.

The other three suspects were nabbed outside the hut.

All suspects were taken to Marudi NCID, where police carried out urine test on them.

“Eight of them tested positive for Methamphetamine, while one tested negative.

“But they were all detained to facilitate police investigation,” said Sahar.

The eight suspects tested positive for drugs were also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug abuse.
