MIRI: Completion of Batu Niah fire station project should be given top priority, Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus said.

According to her, the project should have been completed in 2016 but until today the construction was not completed.

“The federal government should give top priority to Balai Bomba Batu Niah as the construction has been delayed for many years,” she said after visiting the oil palm farms belonging to villagers of Kampung Pejuang that were razed due to open burning.

Rosey suggested that the relevant federal ministry should come down and identify the cause of the delay in the completion of the fire station which is very much needed to give the local people a sense of safety.

On the other hand, Rosey hoped that more people would come forward as volunteer fire fighters in villages and longhouse to be first respondents in the event of fire outbreak.

In view of the dry weather, Rosey urged plantation owners and villagers to refrain from conducting open burning as fire can spread very fast and destroy crops, belongings and even houses.

She reminded village security and development committees to be on the alert at all times and inform Bomba of any fire outbreak at their villages or longhouses.
