KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) will host its inaugural ‘Mini Carnival’, meant to introduce its ‘Smart Meters’ pilot project here.

The event is set to take place at Kampung Gita community hall this Saturday, scheduled to run from 9am to 5pm.

According to SEB, the carnival aims to inform the community about the pilot project taking place in their neighbourhood, and also to share information regarding this initiative so that the community would understand the benefits of having smart meters, as well as the meter installation process and its implementation.

“Members of the public, especially Kampung Gita residents are invited to the carnival to get first-hand information about smart meters and its benefits,” it said in a statement.

Kampung Gita has been identified as the pioneer implementation area for the pilot project, involving 1,700 meters to be installed beginning next month.

Tabuan Jaya Baru/Tabuan Laru and Jalan Kempas will follow suit, with a target of 6,000 smart meters to be installed by the end of the year.

Smart meters are meters equipped with advanced features for more efficient electricity supply monitoring and reading, offering numerous advantages including remote meter reading, as well as actual and prompt billing.

Earlier this month, the first engagement on the pilot project was made involving Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Kampung Gita community leaders, where their feedback was obtained to ensure smooth implementation.

“This engagement received positive feedback and the community leaders would be working together with Sarawak Energy in organising the mini carnival,” said SEB, adding that the corporation would alo be promoting its retail services such as the SEB Cares mobile app, Customer Care Centre and customer support services.

The carnival would also hold public safety awareness exhibition as part of SEB’s continuous engagement and educational programmes, it said.

The SEB Mini Carnival will also run fun activities including a colouring contest for children aged between four and eight, a playtime area, as well as lucky draws and quizzes with many attractive prizes up for grabs.

All-day entertainment will include acts by famous singer/comedian/emcee Iwan Dasri and a special appearance by YouTube comedy sensation Makcik Bawang Cempiyennn (MBC) in the afternoon. Sarawak Energy will also feature its very own talents for the show.
