KUCHING: Newly appointed Malaysian ambassador to the Vatican City, His Excellency Westmoreland Edward Palon, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah at his office yesterday.

A career diplomat, Westmoreland succeeds the former and first Malaysian ambassador to Vatican, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

“Prior to his current posting, Westmoreland was the Malaysian Consul General in Melbourne, Australia,” added a statement yesterday.

The statement also said Westmoreland had served in Singapore, USA (UN) and Chile in a career spanning 23 years.

During the courtesy call, Uggah congratulated him on his appointment, saying it is a great honour to the state.
