SMK Sibu Jaya band wins for third consecutive year

SIBU: The SMK Sibu Jaya band made it a hat trick when they were adjudged champion for three consecutive years in the Live Band competition at the ‘Sibu District-level Secondary School Solo ‘Irama Malaysia’ Singing Contest and Live Band competition’ held at SMK Sacred Heart, yesterday.

According to the teacher in-charge of SMK Sibu Jaya band, Annette Alicia Guillan, their success did not come easy.

“Our band members really have to work extra hard to be able to acheive the success .

“We train at least four hours per session on every weekend and even during school holidays,” she said when met after the competition yesterday.

SMK Sibu Jaya beat SMK Sacred Heart to emerge champion while SMK Bukit Lima came in third.

The winners received trophy and certificate of participation.

SMK Sacred Heart senior assistant for co-curricullar, Lau Tiew Kiong and supervisor of Sibu District education office (co-curiculum) Inggol Utek were also present.

Meanwhile, the Best Lead Guitar title went to SMK Bukit Lima and the Best Drummer was won by SMK Sacred Heart.
