SIBU: Two sexagenarians were detained when Region 5 Marine Police raided stalls at Sibu Central Market here in ‘Operation Landai’ yesterday.
The operation conducted by two officers and 12 other personnel was led by Region 5 Marine Police intelligence officer ASP Pangji Eseng.
In a statement, Region 5 Marine Police said the team seized a total of 100,532 contraband cigarettes valued at RM60,321 believed to be smuggled from a neighbouring country during the operation.
“We are investigating whether the items were smuggled by land or water.
“The case will be handed over to Customs Department,” the statement added.
