KUCHING: Executive College’s (EC) recent open day, themed ‘Building Futures Through Innovative Education’, received a good response from students and parents.

Among the programme highlights were the Quantity Surveying Hands-on Workshop, Business Forum: Market Trends of Sarawak, and student work exhibits.

There was also a free health screening session by KinCentre Pharmacy and eye test conducted by Eyez Optometry.

The faculty of Engineering and Technology previewed new technologies used in construction management – 3D printer and virtual reality (VR).

The faculty also exhibited the eight stages of Project Management Code of Practice (PMBOK), which gave students an understanding that the scope of construction management is more than just working on site.

During the Quantity Surveying Hands-on Workshop, participants learned an overview of the CostX Software Application, an estimating software used in over 80 countries by quantity surveyors, builders, subcontractors, and estimators, from companies both large and small.

They learnt basic commands, measurement, and build-up rates for the floor finishes, and also how to produce a basic report for cost estimation.

Participants were also encouraged to join in the ‘Fun Estimating’ game to give them some quantity surveying fundamental estimating knowledge.

The Business Administration Faculty had iCube Innovation Sdn Bhd founder and chairman Datuk Patrick Liew, EC CEO Sheila Sie, and BIGDEX CEO Simon Wong share their insights on the trends of the Sarawak workforce and how the young people can prepare themselves for this workforce in terms of skills, knowledge, and attitude.

All programmes offered at EC have received full accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and are recognised by the Public Service Department (JPA).

The Diploma in Quantity Surveying programme is also recognised and approved by the Board of Quantity Surveying Malaysia (BQSM) and Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM).

EC is currently giving an instant rebate of RM 1,000 for students who enrol for the April semester and is also offering a start in the Diploma in Business Administration programme for RM1,500.

Every new student at the college is entitled to a free iPad as an integrated learning tool, where students can access their lecture notes, assignments, timetable, and notices all in one place.

EC also provides scholarships of up to 50 per cent tuition fee waivers and other financial aid such as from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation and Employees Provident Fund withdrawal.

April intake classes will commence on Monday (April 22).

The college, which is located on the second floor of Crown Square, 88 Jalan Pending here, is open on weekdays from 8am to 5pm, and on weekends from 9am to 4pm this month.
