Fiesta Talenista attracted a record crowd.

SIBU Jaya is a vibrant township with many talented young people.

The township’s master developer – Distrepark Sdn Bhd – is both big-hearted and farsighted in providing the young people of this growing suburb a platform to display their talents.

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) zone councillor Kong Yii Tee paid a glowing tribute to the developer when she gave away prizes for Fiesta Talenista, a two-night event, featuring the top acts in three main categories – singing, dancing and open talent.

Also present were zone councillors Halimah Japar and Mathew Chuat.

“All of us in SRDC are very supportive of this event, hosted by Distrepark and their event management partner Embun Kiara Sdn Bhd. They are very professional and what they’re doing is giving the young people of Sibu Jaya the opportunity to shine.

“Events held over the past three years clearly reflect the developer’s earnest efforts to promote local talents and provide ample opportunities for the school children to participate in wholesome programmes.

“It’s heartening to work with a developer that cares for the community it is helping to build,” Kong said.

The event was a huge success, drawing up to 2,000 attendees on the first night and full capacity of 3,000 on the second. The streets were packed with people out to support the young performers.

Kong was impressed with the performances of the students in the competitions and the smart presentation by the three emcees – all teenagers from the township.

“That’s why I have always turned up at all such events with my fellow zone councillors and the others from SRDC to show our support.”

Halimah acknowledged that the developer has been “very responsive” to the needs of the township.

“For example, other than social events, I noticed landscaping in the township has been taken to a whole new level with Distrepark’s involvement, and to this day, they’re continuing to support SRDC to turn Sibu Jaya into an urban forest.”

Mathew, one of the councillors assigned to look after Sibu Jaya, said he always looked forward to events organised with the developer.

“They also face challenges in organising events but what sets them apart is their cheerful attitude and readiness in extending a helping hand. This positive approach draws even more support from the business community and the residents.”

On Fiesta Talenista, Mathew said it was borne out of a genuine concern for the welfare of Sibu Jaya folk.

“The developer discovered that the various schools were having problems staging concerts and talent competitions in Sibu Jaya. When approached by the zone councillors and locals for help, the developer immediately came up with the idea to work with various parties to stage talent events within the Sibu Jaya Carnival,” he explained.

The idea soon crystallised with the help of event management partner Embun Kiara and Doremon Supermarket, as well as SRDC as the lead authority.

“So, what you see before you is not accidental but well thought out and supported by many organisations because they all believe in you, the youths of Sibu Jaya,” he told the cheering students and capacity crowd during the prize presentation.

Mathew hoped that the developer would continue to help budding Sibu Jaya talents to rise and shine.

“We have high expectations of the young ones and we know Distrepark Sdn Bhd is a partner we can trust in nurturing them with the rest of us.”

Fiesta Talenista was held concurrently with the Sibu Jaya Carnival 2019, a prelude to the signature event – Sibu Jaya Fun 5 Street Carnival, which is scheduled for August and September.
