KAPIT: The women wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has set up a taskforce to increase the party’s membership, register young voters and to explain the policies of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) on social media as well as counter false allegations regarding the coalition.

PBB Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the role of the taskforce was to strengthen the party and GPS in general in the lead-up to the next state election, to ensure the coalition remains the government of Sarawak and continues to look after the interests of the state.

“Among the strategies is to organise get-together sessions with the grassroots to disseminate critical information on the current socio-economic situation as well as on socio-political issues.

“It is a platform to counter false allegations by the opposition in the state, who are out to smear the good work of GPS,” she told those gathered at such a session, held at Kampung Muhibbah Bletih here recently.

Fatimah, along with Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, were the guests of honour.

The Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development went on to stress that the Sarawak government has always focused on developing both urban and rural areas whilst maintaining unity among the people, as well as defending the rights of the state.

Sharifah Hasidah, who also spoke, touched on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and on amending Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, while a political secretary to chief minister Susan Anding spoke on the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2018

The get-together session gathered some 200 local community leaders and branch members of GPS component parties.

Others present included Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit.
