KUCHING: Youths need to have high integrity in order to be good leaders and lead properly, says Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talip Zulpilip.

He said they must have high sense of integrity in order not to fall into temptations like corruption, which could eventually ruin the organisations and the state.

“Integrity is a very important component of becoming a leader, and because the youth are our future leaders they should be empowered to have high integrity to effectively fight against corruption and thus be able to lead properly,” he said yesterday.

He said this at the closing of Sarawak Youth Development Programme: Integrity and Good Governance here yesterday.

Talip stressed that integrity is also very much emphasised by the state government in its vision to become a developed state by 2030.

The programme was organised by State Ombudsman and Integrity Unit (Union) in collaboration with the Chief Minister’s Department, Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Faculty of Policy Study and Science Administration, and non-governmental organisations.

Talip added that integrity is very important when it comes to seeking employment.

Meanwhile, three papers were presented during the one-day programme; namely Youth Leadership by Sarawak Volunteer president Khairul Anwar Shazali, Youth Combating Ant-Corruption Agenda by MACC and Sarawak with high integrity towards 2030: The role of Sarawak youth by Union director Adana Jed.
