Teenager succumbs to injuries after accident

KUCHING: A 16-year-old teenager identified as Muhammad Syahrizal Iswandi succumbed to his injuries at theSarawak General Hospital (SGH), after he was involved in a self-accident around 4.30pm yesterday.

Sarawak traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu who confirmed the incident said Muhammad Syahriza, together with his pillion rider who is of the same age as him, were approaching Taman Landeh, Padawan when the motorcycle they were riding on suddenly lost control and crashed on the road.

Both victims were rushed to SGH via ambulance and at 5.32pm and Muhammad Syahrizal was pronounced dead by the medical personnel from SGH on the same day.

“The pillion rider is fortunate to suffer only from minor injuries,” said Alexson, adding that the case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Alexson revealed that both teens were pursuing another motorcyclist who was alleged to have stolen the pillion rider’s handphone when they were involved in the accident.

It was also revealed that the deceased and the pillion rider were both from Mile 11 Jalan Kuching – Serian.
