KUCHING: Malaysia’s real estate with exemplary property and facility management was unveiled on April 21, witnessed by the who’s who in the property development, management and construction sectors.

Also honoured at the event – EdgeProp Malaysia’s Best Managed Property Awards 2019 – were developers, property managers and owners for their role and contribution towards setting the benchmark for Malaysia’s real estate management practices.

EdgeProp Malaysia’s Best Managed Property Awards 2019 recognises real estate that is managed with excellence and sustainability. Introduced in 2017, this annual Awards is the first of its kind in Malaysia and in the region.

It is endorsed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and supported by Association of Property and Facility Managers Singapore, Architect Centre, Building Managers Association of Malaysia, Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Property and Facility Managers, Malaysian REIT Managers Association and Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin was present at the gala dinner held in a hotel.

Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah was honoured as Malaysia’s Exemplary Leader of Sustainable Development 2019.

“Tan Sri Cheah’s passion towards sustainability is outstanding and his contribution truly exemplary. We can think of no other candidate more deserving for this inaugural award of significance,” EdgeProp Malaysia managing director and editor-in-chief Au Foong Yee said.

Encore Melaka by Yong Tai was winner of the Exemplary Real Estate Contribution to the Nation Award 2019.

“This private-funded project marks the journey of a courageous entrepreneur, Datuk Wira Boo Kuang Loon, who went against all odds to etch Melaka and Malaysia on the world tourism map.

“This is a project deserving of the government’s support to promote tourist arrivals,” Au said.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre by KLCC Holdings Sdn Bhd, meanwhile, walked away with the Exemplary Convention Centre Award 2019. Besides this award, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre also walked away with the Gold Award in the above 10 years Specialised Category.

In the south, Sutera Mall Johor, a project by Tanah Sutera Development, was honoured with the Exemplary Retail Mall Award 2019. Sutera Mall was also a winner in the Above 10 Years Retail Category.

Though not the biggest or the newest kid on the block, Sutera Mall is an example of a commercial venture with a heart and a soul, said Au.

“Amongst other practices, the management invests in food recycling and even runs a spacious free public library,” she added.

Sunway Group and Perdana Parkcity were winners of EdgeProp Malaysia’s Responsible Developer: Building Sustainable Development Award 2019.

Winners of this Award, chosen by editors of EdgeProp Malaysia, were recognised for their commitment to build developments that are designed and built for world class property management.
