SIBU: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has hit out at Lanang MP Alice Lau for her lack of sincerity when speaking on matters related to MA63 in parliament.

In a press statement received here yesterday, Tiong, who is also Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, said Lau had instead turned around to accuse him (Tiong) for not having done enough for MA63 in parliament.

Tiong asked back: “What do you know what I have contributed? Why did we in GPS pull out of Barisan Nasional to form a new coalition? We are doing this to protect the rights of Sarawakians.”

He said Lau was well aware of this, and asked her if she pretended not to know it.

Tiong hit out again at Lau for not having done anything for Sarawak during her two terms as MP.

“In fact, the whole DAP has contributed nothing all these years. Now, Lau has hurled accusation against others to create something out of nothing.”

He said Lau had been outspoken outside parliament, but, when she was in the parliament, she kept silent.

He said Lau was now in the ruling coalition, “but I am surprised she doesn’t dare to speak out on Sarawak’s rights.

“She hasn’t have the gut to do things. She has remained silent inside parliament while vocal outside to mislead the people.”

He said if Lau needed to know more about MA63, she should refer to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, who is on her side now and who had done nothing for Sarawak for 22 years when he (Mahathir) was in power.

He said the people of Sarawak knew what the GPS government is doing for the people

He added Lau had contradicted herself in her statements; that during the first reading to amend the constitution in regards to MA63, she had said to restore Sarawak’s autonomy first, then to work out on the details in stages later.

Her comrade Chong Chien Jen even said there was no mistake in the constitution amendment while Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii had called on all MPs to support the bill in the second reading.

“The content of the bill in the second reading, was swiftly corrected by the Pakatan Harapan people, but it still ended up being rejected.”

Now, he said, Lau was trying to whitewash it for Pakatan Harapan.

Tiong said after the first reading, netizens and GPS voiced their objection to the bill, and
Lau had not responded constructively.

He asked if Sarawak’s autonomous rights were being done with sincerity, why would it have to be done in stages?

“Why didn’t they settle the issue once and for all in accordance with MA63? Why would it have to be done in stages? What is the motive? Is it to win the next election?”
